    Expression model for multiple relationships in the ontology of traditional Chinese medicine knowledge

    AbstractObjectiveTo explore multiple relationships in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) knowledge by comparing binary and multiple relationships during knowledge organization.MethodsCharacteristics of binary and multiple semantic relationships as well as their associations are described. A method to classify multiple relationships based on the involvement of time is proposed and theoretically validated using examples from the ancient TCM classic Important Formulas Worth a Thousand Gold Pieces. The classification includes parallel multiple relationships, restricted multiple relationships, multiple relationships that involve time, and multiple relationships that involve time restriction. Next, construction of multiple semantic relationships for TCM concepts in each classification using Protégé, an ontology editing tool is described.ResultsProtégé is superior to a binary relationship and less than ideal with multiple relationships during the constitution of concept relationships.ConclusionWhen applied in TCM, the semantic relationships constructed by Protégé are superior than those constructed by correlation and/or attribute relationships, but less ideal than those constructed by the human cognitive process

    A novel control system design for automatic feed drilling operation of the PLC-based oil rig

    Aiming at the difficulties in realizing the accurate control due to the nonlinearity of the automatic drilling system of oil drilling rig, a design scheme is proposed by giving a constant drilled-pressure to the rig for fuzzy control. Sampling error with changes in the signal was sent into the fuzzy controller, which turned the signal into a fuzzy volume. Subsequently, a precise volume was obtained accordingly and then added to an actuator for the motor control. According to the MATLAB simulation results, the response could be faster and more stable compared with the traditional control

    Modeling Shrinkage and Creep for Concrete with Graphene Oxide Nanosheets

    In this study, the shrinkage and creep of concrete containing graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets were experimentally and theoretically investigated. Experiments for the shrinkage and creep of concrete with 0.02% and 0.08% GO nanosheets by the weight of cement and common concrete were carried out. Subsequently, the influence of GO nanosheets on the shrinkage and creep of concrete was analyzed and discussed. A modified model was developed to accurately predict the shrinkage and creep of concrete containing GO nanosheets after models for predicting shrinkage and creep of common concrete were compared and the influential factors and application scope were determined. Results indicate that: (1) GO nanosheets can increase the shrinkage strain and reduce the creep coefficient of concrete, and (2) a modified ACI209 (92) model can accurately predict the shrinkage and creep of concrete containing GO nanosheets. Factors considering concrete strength can be introduced in the model to improve the model accuracy

    Predicting Norovirus in the United States Using Google Trends: Infodemiology Study

    BackgroundNorovirus is a contagious disease. The transmission of norovirus spreads quickly and easily in various ways. Because effective methods to prevent or treat norovirus have not been discovered, it is important to rapidly recognize and report norovirus outbreaks in the early phase. Internet search has been a useful method for people to access information immediately. With the precise record of internet search trends, internet search has been a useful tool to manifest infectious disease outbreaks. ObjectiveIn this study, we tried to discover the correlation between internet search terms and norovirus infection. MethodsThe internet search trend data of norovirus were obtained from Google Trends. We used cross-correlation analysis to discover the temporal correlation between norovirus and other terms. We also used multiple linear regression with the stepwise method to recognize the most important predictors of internet search trends and norovirus. In addition, we evaluated the temporal correlation between actual norovirus cases and internet search terms in New York, California, and the United States as a whole. ResultsSome Google search terms such as gastroenteritis, watery diarrhea, and stomach bug coincided with norovirus Google Trends. Some Google search terms such as contagious, travel, and party presented earlier than norovirus Google Trends. Some Google search terms such as dehydration, bar, and coronavirus presented several months later than norovirus Google Trends. We found that fever, gastroenteritis, poison, cruise, wedding, and watery diarrhea were important factors correlated with norovirus Google Trends. In actual norovirus cases from New York, California, and the United States as a whole, some Google search terms presented with, earlier, or later than actual norovirus cases. ConclusionsOur study provides novel strategy-based internet search evidence regarding the epidemiology of norovirus

    The flowability and high-temperature resistance of manufactured sand concrete: An exploration for high-rise buildings

    The depletion of natural concrete aggregates, e.g., river sands, is a gradual process, and hence, manufactured sand concrete (MSC) is widely used in various construction projects. The flowability and high-temperature resistance of MSC directly determine the transport of fresh concrete and the fire resistance of high-rise buildings. In this study, MSC with different superplasticizer contents and sand ratios was prepared and its flowability and high-temperature resistance were studied. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) were used to characterize the microstructure and porosity of MSC. The flowability of MSC with higher than 0.75% superplasticizer content or lower than 43% sand ratio is suitable for super high-rise buildings according to GB/T 50081-2019. The mechanical properties of other MSC meet the C30 requirements except for the MSC with a sand ratio of 48%. And the relatively high superplasticizer content or low sand ratio can make the denser structure and lower porosity of MSC. In addition, the MSC with relatively high superplasticizer content and low sand ratio exhibits better resistance to high temperatures due to a denser structure. This study provides theoretical guidance for using MSC in high-rise buildings and studying fire performance

    Mechanical Properties and Shrinkage Behavior of Concrete-Containing Graphene-Oxide Nanosheets

    Graphene oxide (GO) has been widely used as an additive due to its numerous unique properties. In this study, the compressive strength, flexural strength and elasticity modulus of concrete containing 0.02 wt%, 0.05 wt % and 0.08 wt % GO, and its dry shrinkage performance have been experimentally investigated. After the sample preparation, apparatus for compression test and flexural test were used to test the relevant properties of concrete containing GO. The dial indicators were used to measure the shrinkage of samples. The results indicate that GO can considerably improve the compressive strength, flexural strength, and elasticity modulus of concrete at the concrete age of 28 days by 4.04–12.65%, 3.8–7.38%, and 3.92–10.97%, respectively, which are substantially smaller than the increment at the age of 3 d by 5.02–21.51%, 4.25–13.06%, and 6.07–27.45% under a water-cement ratio of 0.35. It was also found that GO can increase the shrinkage strain of concrete. For example, at the age of 60 days, 0.02 wt%, 0.05 wt% and 0.08 wt% GO can increase the shrinkage strain of ordinary concrete by 1.99%, 5.79% and 7.45% respectively under a water-cement ratio of 0.49.     Design Suggestions on Resistance from Flange of Sorbite Stainless Steel Plate Girder under Shear

    A new S600E sorbite stainless steel (SS), which performs outstanding mechanical properties, was introduced in a plate girder to enhance the resistant performance and durability. The resistance from the flange for S600E sorbite SS plate girders developing post-buckling capacity was investigated through numerical analyses, which included the material and geometrical nonlinearity. The value of distance between plastic hinges performed significant effects on resistance from flange. There was a certain distribution range of the flange plastic hinge. Hence, it was difficult to determine the value of distance between plastic hinges accurately based merely on the failure behavior. Considering the theoretical basis of EN 1993-1-4: 2006+A1, the new methods to obtain resistance from the flange and determine the value of distance between the plastic hinges were proposed to avoid the aforementioned error. The parametric study was conducted to investigate the effect of key parameters on the resistance from the flange. To take the above effect into account, a correction factor was proposed for the design equation in EN 1993-1-4: 2006+A1 to predict the distance between flange plastic hinges accurately. The comparison was conducted to validate the accuracy of the proposed equations. The results indicated that the new modified equation could be used to predict the resistance from the flange of the S600E sorbite SS plate girder more accurately
